Framing

Drywall framing is the construction technique used to prepare a wall for the installation of plasterboard; the drywall. Drywall sheets are manufactured in a universal size, therefor when the sheets are installed, they must comply to the dimensions of the specific area where they’re being used. Some sheets will need to be cut in order to perfectly fit into the appropriated space. Every sheet that is used must be attached to the studs which makes up the frame. The frame can be suited to match many types of designs you may wish for; such as framing out space for separate rooms, a closet space, or even a spot to have a custom shelf incorporated into your wall. Metal Frames

Many years ago, it would be rare to see steel studs in residential buildings. However, as time has gone by builders and remodeling professionals alike have recognized that metal framing has many benefits associated to it. Metal studs are quite often of a very predicable quality; because of their structure and material they do not bend or warp over time, while at the same time they are very light weight. Steel studs don’t rot after many years of use which is one of the biggest advantages, along with being fire and termite resistant. Although there are many benefits to using steel frames, it has its drawbacks as well. Due to the material components that make up these metal frames, it can be very difficult to cut, this can be especially arduous when needing to make many custom cuts for a specific design. Because steel frames are not as popular as traditional wood fames, it can be difficult to find the right steel studs that are needed for the right price. Wood Frames

From the beginning of time, wood has been used to build pretty much everything. This holds especially true when it comes to drywall framing practices. Wood frames are the most used forms of assembling framing for drywall, especially in the residential sector. This is due largely in part to its remarkable strength. Wood frames can support a lot more weight than its steel studded counterpart, and as a result they can be used in a variety of applications such as load bearing walls. Wood studs are also much easier to cut which makes installation a much smoother and simple process. However, as popular and as common as wood framing is, it has its disadvantages which should be considered as well. Unlike steel studs, wooden studs are susceptible to warping and rotting over time, this can notably become a concern when the timber may be exposed to a lot of water or humidity. Although wood frames are more common than steel, they are actually more expensive than metal, sometimes adding up to 30% more to the cost.
